
Dr. D. Leela is a Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist at St. Theresa’s Hospital, Hyderabad, with over 29 years of teaching and clinical experience. Her work focuses on cancer prevention, screening, and the treatment of gynaecological cancers.
She completed her MBBS at Rangaraya Medical College, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, in 1983, followed by a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1986 and an MD in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 1987 from Andhra Medical College, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. Dr. Leela also holds a Diplomate of the National Board (DNB) in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, awarded by the National Board of Examinations, New Delhi, in 1993.
Dr. Leela is a Member (2000) and Fellow (2012) of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (UK). She completed a UICC Fellowship in Colposcopy at the University of Birmingham, UK (1997–1998), participated in the RCOG Overseas Doctors Training programme in the UK (1999–2001), and received specialised training in Gynaecological Oncology at the Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore, in August–September 2010. She also completed the IFCPC and IARC Certified Course in Colposcopy in 2018.
She serves as President of the Indian Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ISCCP) from 2021 to the present. Since 2021, Dr. Leela has been a Master Trainer in VIA and Colposcopy for PHC, CHC, DHC, and medical colleges, and has also served as an organiser and trainer for the ISCCP Colposcopy Training Programme. She completed a Basic Palliative Care Course in 2018 and participated in the Stanford Project on Quality Initiatives in Palliative Care the same year.
Dr. Leela has been actively involved in community outreach, conducting cervical and breast cancer screening camps since 2016, with over 40 camps benefiting more than 10,000 women. She has also led HPV vaccination camps in 10 rural schools, vaccinating over 1,000 boys and girls.
Her professional interests include cancer prevention, screening, and the treatment of gynaecological cancers.
